It occurs to me that I’ve neglected to blog about the fact that I’m speaking at Southwest Fox 2011.

For those unfamiliar, Southwest Fox is the premiere Visual FoxPro Developer’s Conference. It’s at a fantastic resort in Gilbert (Phoenix suburb) AZ, and like all conferences the people are fantastic. I was invited to speak there for the first time last year, and I think this year will be much better since I’ll have those first-timer jitters behind me.

My Session will be:

Fox on the Run

I’m pretty excited about this session, because preparing for it opened up a lot of new possibilities for me. In 75 minutes we take Visual FoxPro data, wrap a business object around it with West Wind Web Connection, create a web page and make Ajax calls to a West Wind app, pretty it up with jQuery Mobile, and compile it into a native Android or iPhone application using PhoneGap. That’s a lot of technology going on, and it works great.

Flip the Switch: LightSwitch for VFP Developers

In this session I’ll demonstrate creating a LightSwitch application from start to finish (and beyond), from the perspective of a Visual FoxPro developer. We’ll talk about what data sources you can use (FoxPro? Hmmm…), what data types are available, form and menu organization, and application deployment and updating. If you’re a Visual FoxPro developer considering a move to a new Rich Internet Application platform, you should check out this session to see if LightSwitch is right for you.
